I finally got around to ripping apart the engine of the first Motos****t
I bought a few years back - the one that "just needed the electrics
hooking up" before it would run. Which it never did, despite having a
spark and fuel. And kicking over a lot easier than the decent one I
acquired later on.
Head came off without too much fuss (well, once I found the hidden nut
that held the whole thing on after I was sure that I had removed all of
them...). I'm pretty sure the engine's not been opened by the previous
"restorer", given that everything was painted over in what looked like
silver Hammerite. Head is not looking too bad, some light scoring on the
cam journals but "good enough for ebay".
And yes, WUN, there is a piston in the engine. And some seizure marks on
in the barrel, plus some rusty water marks. Unfortunately the plonker
who "painted" the engine painted over an already seized in fastener so I
can't take the barrel off until I ground off that bolt
head. Great. Especially great because it's one of those cheesehead
bolts, and Mr Honda put it into a location where you can't get a ring
spanner on it. So that looks like Dremel or angle grinder time, and at
the moment I haven't got either...
I'll use a few parts on my 'good' Motos****t and the rest goes on ebay or
the bin - engine parts for these seem to be fairly sought after.
Oh well, and I thought I'd manage to strip the whole thing in an
afternoon. Yeah, right.
