I am considering buying my first scooter. Like many recent buyers, I'm
interested in a scooter as a means of reducing what I spend on gas. I'd be
using the scooter primarily for commuting. I commute about 16 miles/day;
the
entire route is on city streets, mainly winding through residential
neighborhoods.
A few initial considerations:
I don't need to travel more than 40 MPH during my commute--nor can I
on
the city streets on which I'd be riding. In fact, avg. speeds would
probably be between 20 and 30 MPH. My commute is moderately hilly: none
of the hills is steep, but some are relatively long (I live and work in
Philadelphia). In this light, would a 50 cc engine work okay for me, or
should I consider an 150 cc engine?
I don't have any place in the house to store a scooter, and I don't have
a
garage. I thought about putting up a storage shed in my backyard, but
I'm
concerned about theft. (Our neighborhood has a fair number of break-ins,
thefts, and burglaries. To be sure, the scooter would be stored out of
sight of the street.) Any thoughts?
How much of the year can I actually ride the scooter? I'm concerned that
when the temperature drops below 50 that it might not be feasible to ride
a scooter to and from the office.
What are some brands I should consider? Which should I avoid? What,
besides Vespa, Honda, and Yamaha, are the big names? What does one get
from a big name that one doesn't get from some other brands?
Any opinions on the scooters at the evosales.com site? (I'm thinking in
particular of their RoadRunner i-scooters.
Your responses will be appreciated.
